Israeli forces are seeking to arrest suspects in a recent gun attack that killed “several” armed people Monday during a gunfight in the Palestinian West Bank city of Jericho occupied, the military said.
According to the Palestinian Health Ministry, “three citizens were shot by Israeli occupation forces during the attack on Jericho,” one of them in critical condition.
The Israeli military said in a statement that “several armed attackers were killed after firing on IDF (Israeli Defense Forces) soldiers operating in the area.”
The army did not say how many people were killed in the Aqabat Jabr camp at the entrance to the city. It reported no casualties among its forces.
The military said Monday’s raid was aimed at capturing “the Hamas terrorist team that carried out the gun attack” on January 28, when two armed men approached an Israeli restaurant near Jericho. , the military said.
One of the gunmen opened fire on the restaurant but his weapon jammed with just one bullet and no one was injured.
The two then fled to Jericho, and the military conducted a search in the area.
