Via Charles Brun: Tyson Fury says he’s “NO” agreeing to fight unified heavyweight champion Oleksandr Usyk next because he’s only focused on one fight at a time and right now, he’s focused on Derek Chisora for Saturday night.
If Fury doesn’t fight Usyk next, it will corroborate the views of the Ukrainian talent and the boxing public that he fears him.
Fury has avoided losses to Otto Wallin and Deontay Wilder and is said to have had three losses on his résumé. Usyk is able to embarrass Fury and take advantage of his slow arms and legs.
Fury said he still plans to slap Usyk (20-0, 13 KOs) if he meets him on Saturday night in the ring, but we’ll see if he changes his mind about that.
The way Fury appeared nervous & agitated at the mention of Usyk’s name in Thursday’s interview; there is fear there about the Ukrainians.
Although Fury has stated that he intends to continue his career as long as he suffers a lot of losses, it is more likely that he will hang up his gloves after being hit once or twice. Fury doesn’t seem to be put off to deal with hardship like other fighters.
“I don’t care about those guys. I’ll slap him and his boxers,” Tyson Fury said talkSPORT Boxing when it was announced that Oleksandr Usyk and his promoter Alex Krassyuk would be in the ring on Saturday against the journeyman Derek Chisora.
“It’s not because I didn’t agree to anything, nothing,‘ Fury said when asked if he would agree to face Usyk next. “I only have one fight at a time, and I am fighting Derek Chisora. The rest of you can say ‘beep, beep, beep, beep’ now.
“Street [Hill Steward] There’s no fighting on Saturday night, so maybe he’ll tease the manager [Alex Krassyuk]. Just find an ugly foreigner and tease him, and that’s it.
“I’ll probably fight ten matches next year, and that’s it. It’s a promise I’d love to make,” Fury said of his wish that he could fight ten times by 2023.
Fury said of him and 38-year-old Chisora: “We’re going to punch each other to pieces or as long as it lasts. “We’ll definitely know on Saturday night.
“It will be a great boxing night before Christmas. It’s going to be cold. Hopefully, it’s snowing.”
