Kuldeep Yadav picked up 8 shots in the First Test against Bangladesh
Former Indian captain and batting legend Sunil Gavaskar did not mince words when he criticized the Indian team management for the decision to remove Kuldeep Yadav from the starting line-up for the second Test match against Bangladesh currently underway in Mirpur. India decided to bring in the left-handed rhythm controller Jaydev Unadkat and this decision means Kuldeep is dropped from the team. The left wrist spinner is the “Player of the Match” in the First Test when 8 hooks are picked up.
It was a harsh decision and Gavaskar said he couldn’t believe that the player who performed so well in the previous Test was the one being eliminated.
“Dropping a man of the match, unbelievable. It’s the only word I can use and it’s a gentle word. I want to use stronger words, but it’s unbelievable. you missed a ‘man of the match’ who had eight out of 20 shots,” Gavaskar said while commenting on Sony Sports Network, the broadcaster of the series.
“You have two other spinners (Axar Patel and R. Ashwin). So sure, one of the other spinners could have been out. But this guy who took eight worthy players. must play today with respect to what the court looks like,” said Gavaskar, countering captain KL Rahul’s argument that the 22-yard strip looked “confusing”.
India’s Alternate Captain KL Rahul said while throwing the ball that it is difficult to release Kuldeep.
“Hard decision on Kuldeep but we know Ashwin and Axar can find the turning point and bring Jaydev in to cover all the strong points. It was our unfortunate decision to drop him (Kuldeep) but it was an opportunity for Unadkat,” Rahul said.
India won 5 batting at the end of the second session on Day 1 and Unadkat was the pitchers’ choice.
