Jacob Anderson wants to free Louis from Lestat

Jacob Anderson know that the AMC TV adaptation of Anne Rice’s lover Interview with a Vampire toothed novel. “I just have a really strong feeling that I love the show and I think it’s great,” Anderson said. “At this point, I need to love it to do it.” However, Anderson, who became famous for playing Gray Worm on Game of Thrones, worried that the epic supernatural love story between his Louis and the French Lestat (Sam Reid) may take some time to connect with fans, despite the fact that Interview with a Vampire has been renewed for a second season ahead of its October 2 premiere.

“Hopefully we’ve surprised some people who were apprehensive about the fact that we’re adapting this really special source material that still stands apart from a lot of horror,” Anderson said. ‘ Anderson said. “I remember I just wanted to say to people, ‘Stay with us. Stay with us. There are things that seem odd now that will make sense or become full circle if you are patient. ‘”

It all comes to a head on Sunday, November 13, when the seventh and final episode of the season airs at 10pm. The season’s penultimate episode, “Like Angels Put in Hell by God,” sees Anderson’s Louis being slaughtered both emotionally and physically after a conflict with Lestat, questioning the entire relationship. their. Restored by their fake vampire daughter, Claudia (Bailey Bass), Louis realizes that maybe it’s time to leave Lestat once and for all, since both are sake. “They were prisoners in that house and the only way to get free was to kill him,” Anderson said. On Zoom from London, Anderson chatted with VF about vampires, unique families, and the thin line between love and hate.

Vanity Fair: Louis begins episode six after being brutalized by Lestat. What mental and emotional space was Louis in at the time?

Jacob Anderson: I think he gave up. He finds a new purpose in the way that Claudia is taking care of him and taking care of him. I think he sees that there is another dimension to their relationship, this new dimension. He always thought he was an insider who needed to take care of her. In the way that she reinstated him, he finds this new adult version of her able to hold her own. Basically, she actually brought him back to life. So I think there’s a new sense of hope in their relationship.

Does Louis still see a romantic future for himself and Lestat?

I really think Louis didn’t want Lestat back at the time. I’ve never had to receive such abuse before, so I can’t speak to it vividly. But I think he’s at the stage where he can see the wood of the trees. I think that kind of instant brutality – the kind of system shock… he was still there when we got back to him for the first time. He is still reliving that experience. He was very confused. I think he never really expected that impulsive violence to be inflicted on him by Lestat. Obviously he saw it. He saw its rays.

But it’s often aimed at other people. This is the first time [Lestat’s violence] was directed to Louis.

You don’t think that someone who loves you would treat you that way. I don’t think anyone expects someone who loves them and says they love them to behave that way or treat them that way regardless of how they treat other people. That’s part of the illusion, I guess, that Lestat put forth first [Louis] through their relationship. It’s like, ‘I’ll take care of you. I will love you, I will fight for you. I will protect you. I will go with what you want to do. I’ll be there for you.’ But what is not said is “unless you try and leave me” or “unless you get me wrong,” [or] ‘unless you get in my way and something else gets in your way.’ That’s the line. There is always a line and the line moves, every now and then.
