Manchester United have been hit by another harsh verdict after Leicester Manchester City’s James Maddison claimed they were “in control even without the ball”.

The Red Devils were held to a draw at Old Trafford and necessary VAR to release their blushes after Maddison thought he had scored the winning goal ten minutes left before it’s ruled out.

United were considered second best for long as they struggled without recognition forward following the belated withdrawal of Cristiano Ronaldo.

Leicester took the lead thanks to Kelechi Iheanacho’s header from Maddison’s cross before Fred equalized just three minutes later. Both teams had leading periods but were unable to find a goal. Maddison though was asked for his thoughts on the stalemate, but his verdict will not be easy to hear for those in the red half of Manchester after their striker-less system failed to start.

He told Sky Sports: “Sometimes you can almost control even without the ball. They obviously played with Bruno and Pogba without a recognized striker. They have slick players in the mix. wide range, but I felt we were in control. We were actually the better team.”

The player saw his attempt dismissed by Andre Marriner, who was asked to consult the supervisor on the sidelines after Raphael Varane went down. Maddison said of the incident: “The unauthorized target was one of them – you see them being given and you see them not being given. I would obviously be biased and say it was not a foul. As soon as he goes through the screen you know.

“I saw Varane come down. The way he went down I think it was a torsion injury. As soon as the referee arrived, I knew something was about to happen that would ruin my party. “The result deepened United’s woes as they failed to close Arsenal in fourth place.
