The government of Jammu and Kashmir announced it would deploy 200 electric buses in both capital cities of the union territory.
The Jammu and Kashmir government on Saturday announced that it is ready to launch 200 electric buses equipped with modern amenities, which will also include real-time tracking functionality. The electric vehicles will also be offered in the capital cities of the union territory, an official said.
This decision by the state government to introduce 100 eco-friendly buses in Jammu and Srinagar is aimed at reducing air and noise pollution as well as dependence on fossil fuels. It also wants to provide better facilities for residents, the official added. These buses will be procured during phase two of the Center for Faster Hybrid and Electric Vehicle Adoption and Production (FAME II). According to PTI’s report, similar bidding packages have also been floated.
These electric buses will have modern functions such as real-time passenger information system (PIS), emergency alarm button, automatic bus navigation system, CCTV camera, public address system, etc. plus, the button to request an online stop and toll collection through various means, informed the report. “The electric bus service will encourage passengers to divert to the public transport system,” the official said.
The Smart Traffic Management System (ITMS) of these electric buses will be connected simultaneously with the Integrated Command and Control Center (ICCC) of Jammu Smart City Limited (JSCL) and Srinagar Smart City Limited ( SSCL) concurrently. Officials said the Jammu and Kashmir Land Transport Corporation (JKRTC) will deploy the ITMS by April 30, and in the first phase, online ticketing facilities will be made available.
An online monitoring platform will also be created at the city level for these EVs to monitor parameters such as kilometers driven, equivalent fuel savings in liters per day and reductions. equivalent amount of carbon dioxide per day.
