Jeff Beck, virtuoso rock guitarist, dies at 78

Jeff Beck, the virtuoso guitarist who rose to fame in the 1960s as a member of the Yardbirds before embarking on a successful and popular solo career, died on January 10, at the age of 78. .
One statement on its website said that Mr. Beck had died “after suddenly contracting bacterial meningitis.” Additional details are not immediately available.
Mr. Beck is considered by many to be one of the greatest guitarists in history, and has leapt between genres recording albums including hard rock, jazz fusion, blues and electronic music.
