Vargas (29-3-2 11 KOs) is back in the ring for the first time since a tight comeback at the hands of Mikey Garcia in Texas in February 2020. The former two-weight world champion aspires to be. who ruled three times. . The 32-year-old is rehearsing for the Smith clash while running his political campaign to represent Nevada’s 4th Congressional District.
Smith (30-3-1 17 KOs) will defend the WBA International belt he won in his last match. In eight rounds in October, he beat local rival Anthony Fowler at Liverpool’s M&S Arena, returning to form after a slight loss in Russia to Magomed Kurbanov in May. The 33-year-old was a former champion. WBO World Champion in the 2015-16 season and is currently 4th in the WBA rankings and shortlisted two-time World Champion.
Vargas and Smith are due to meet this weekend in Phoenix, but COVID excluded the former from the clash and Saturday’s bill will now be headed by Carlos Cuadras and Jesse Rodriguez battling for the WBC World Super title -Flyweight is available live worldwide on DAZN. Vargas and Smith are going to the Big Apple, all open fire, and both believe they will end the other’s careers on April 30.
“Thankfully, I’m on COVID now,” says Vargas. “I want to show people that I’m better than before, I’m working in the gym, so it’s not like I’ve had to take two years off work.
“Liam is talking a lot, and a fire is burning inside of me. Don’t talk trash to me, and I’m coming to a different person. I will exploit all his weaknesses and take him down – My goal is to take him down and eliminate him! This will be an action-packed battle.
“It will be a great night. Amanda and Katie are pioneers of the sport, and I am honored to be a part of such a historic event in New York. ”

“This is an itch that needs scratching for a long time, I want to beat Jessie to death, hit it well and move on. I hope that he becomes fit and healthy this time as I intend to retire him and get him into politics. He wants to move into politics, and I will give him a reason to focus 100% on that.
“Jessie stopped me? I find it very unlikely that there is only one person who can do it and Jessie is not Canelo Alvarez. I fully intend to stop him, be the first to do it, and add my name to the names that have defeated him.”
