Joker: Folie à Deux production is underway, as director Todd Phillips revealed the first photo of the sequel on Instagram. The photo shows Arthur Fleck (Joaquin Phoenix) being shaved by a strange man with a razor blade. Maybe this haircut took place in Arkham Asylum.
Phillips added it’s “first day” as well as “our boy” next to the image. Phoenix won’t be alone as the Crown Prince of Crime in Joker 2. Lady Gaga will star with him, is rumored to play the role of Harley Quinn. It has also been suggested that the sequel will be a musical.
Oscar-nominated actresses Catherine Keener and Brendan Gleeson have also been cast in Joker: Folie à Deux. It is currently unknown who they will play in the sequel. Zazie Beetz is also expected to return as Sophie Dumond.
Meanwhile, Phoenix will obviously get quite a bit of money when it comes back. He is said to have received 20 million dollars for his reprise in Joker 2. The actor won an Oscar for his role as the villain Batman in the first film, bringing in more than $1 billion worldwide.
Still, it’s been a tumultuous time for the DC cinematic universe at Warner Bros. Discovery. Wonder Woman 3 is said to be boxed with director Patty Jenkins. New DC heads James Gunn and Peter Safran are crafting their own future plans, and that could pretty much change what comes before. There are even rumors that Henry Cavill won’t be returning as Superman following a surprise cameo in Black Adam.
Joker: Folie à Deux will premiere on October 4, 2024. Phillips will direct the sequel and also co-write the screenplay with Scott Silver.
