Malaysia Open: PV Sindhu, HS Prannoy reach the quarterfinals

Two-time Olympic medalist PV Sindhu advanced to the quarterfinals with a win from behind against Phittayaporn Chaiwan of Thailand in the Malaysia Open in Kuala Lumpur on Thursday. The world No. 7 defeated the Thai opponent 19-21 21-9 21-14 in a 57-minute clash in the second round at Axiata Arena. The Indian seventh seed will continue to face her arch-nemesis Tai Tzu Ying of Chinese Taipei in the latest confrontation. World No. 21 HS Prannoy also advanced to the quarterfinals of men’s singles with an easy 21-15 21-7 victory over fourth seed Chou Tien Chen of Chinese Taipei.

One of the heroes of India’s epic Thomas Cup victory, hidden Prannoy will face Indonesian seventh seed Jontan Christie.

Later in the day, seventh-seeded men’s pair Satwiksairaj Rankedlydy and Chirag Shetty and former Commonwealth Games champion Parupalli Kashyap will also participate.
