Melanie Lynskey been dealing with nasty body shaming for years!
In a new interview with The Hollywood Reporter announced on Wednesday, the actress revealed a devastating behind-the-scenes experience while filming the 2000 movie Ugly Coyote. She plays “best friend from Jersey,” AKA Gloria, in the film, but her time on set isn’t everything. The female stars are all put on a “diet”, and despite her strict dietary restrictions, she is still considered too big for the role! Melanie shared:
“I starved myself and was as thin as possible for this body, and I am still a [size] four. “
Her body is a constant point of contention, especially when different costume designers or hair and makeup artists will point out her so-called flaws, she noted. :
“That was [after] people put a lot of Spanx for me in wardrobe accessories and were so disappointed when they saw me, the costume designer said, “No one told me there would be girls like you.”
Huh! That’s rude! And at size four?! Comical!!! She emphasized:
“The feedback was really intense about my physical, my body, the people who put my makeup on and said, ‘I’m going to help you by giving you a little more jawline and stuff. ‘
The backlash has taken a toll on her, the now 45-year-old continued:
“There’s just constant feedback like, ‘You’re not pretty. You are not beautiful. ‘ In your early 20s, it’s mostly about your beauty and how people respond to you, and do people want to get to know you? Do people think you’re their best friend? Even the best friend thing, I started saying, ‘I don’t want to do it too many times.’
Melanie is not the only one experiencing this intense scrutiny. New Zealand-born star recalls witnessing leading lady Piper Perabo also faced backlash against her body, adding:
“The careful supervision of Piper [Perabo], is one of the coolest, smartest women, just like how people talk about her body, talk about her looks, focus on what she’s eating. All the girls have this regimen that they have to go on. It’s ridiculous “.
And to think, 22 years later and Melanie is STILL deal with this like **t!! Back in January, the performer told Rolling Stone that a member of Yellow jacket‘ the production team asked her before filming the hit series:
“What do you plan to do? I’m sure the producers will give you a coach. They’d love to help you with this.”
c. So do not be called for. And have you seen her yet? She’s gorgeous and her body doesn’t need a fix! Especially not at the request of certain production staff!!
Jason RitterHer wife continued to face negativity as the show premiered and viewers took issue with her interpretation of adult Shauna, who was very confident in her sexuality and never discussed it. Discuss your weight. Both are important to Show time why, she explained:
“I find it important that this character just be comfortable and sexual and not think or talk about it, because I want women to be able to watch it and say, ‘Well, she looks like me and no one else. say she’s a fat one.’ That representation is important.”
She even clapped her hands in response to the haters openly on Twitterwrite:
“The story of my life since Yellow jacket release. The most serious is the sentence ‘I care about her health!’ people…bastard, you don’t see me on mine Skeleton! You don’t see me running through the park with my kids. Skinny is not always as healthy as “.
