Merseyside Police released a statement following an incident involving Cristiano Ronaldo next Manchester United’s 0-1 loss arrive Everton on Saturday afternoon.

A video is playing Ronaldo smashing an object – believed to be a phone – as he walked down the tunnel in Goodison Park went viral on social media. Ronaldo later issued an apologetic statement on social media and invite the fan in question to a game.

Ronaldo and his United teammates were booed and stunted as the incident unfolded. Several police officers were watching nearby and did not intervene at the time. Ronaldo wore a shin pad on his left hand after suffered a severe wound to his left leg.

A statement from Merseyside Police arrive Liverpool ECHO reads: “We can confirm that we are in contact with Manchester United Football Club and Everton FC following reports of an alleged assault during the football match between Everton and Manchester United today (Saturday 9 April 2022) at Goodison. As the players left the field at 2:30 p.m., it was reported that a boy had been assaulted by one of the away teams as they left the field.

“Investigations are ongoing and officers are currently working with Everton Football club to review CCTV footage and are conducting an extensive witness investigation to determine if criminal conduct occurred. Anyone with information about this incident is asked to contact the Merseyside Police social media desk via Twitter @MerPolCC or Facebook Merseyside Police Contact Center cites reference number 228 April 9, 2022.”

United tell Mirror Football shortly after the incident, they were unavailable for comment at the time and are looking into the matter. They have since told ECHO: “We are aware of an alleged incident after today’s game at Everton and the club will cooperate with any police investigation.”

In a statement on his social network about the incident, Ronaldo wrote: “It is never easy to face our emotions in difficult times like the one we are facing. However, we must always respect Be respectful, patient and set an example for all young people who love beautiful games.

“I would like to apologize for my outburst and if possible I would like to invite this fan to watch a game at Old Trafford as an expression of sportsmanship and fair-play.”

United are still seventh in Premier League after their defeat on Saturday afternoon, three points behind Tottenham Wednesday played a game more. Arsenal and West Ham also fighting Champions League football next season.
