Michael Bay Says He Doesn’t Really Hate Ambulance’s CG Effects

Michael Bay’s New Movie Ambulancediscovered Jake Gyllenhaal and Yahya Abdul-Mateen II were arrested in a burglary that had been mistaken, hits US cinemas in late April. But that hasn’t stopped the action director from flirting with a a bit controversial: During the film’s European press tour, Bay seems to have had a few criticisms about AmbulanceCG’s effects and how they are not distorted.

In one Video interview with the director and his cast made by European cinema chain Les Cinémas Pathé Gaumont, Bay explains that much of the film is filled with realistic effects, while certain visual effects are secondary.

Bay said in the edited video clip: “Some of the CGI is crazy in this movie.” There are a few photos that I’m not happy with, OK? ”

However, in a recent phone interview, Bay himself explained to Polygon exactly what he meant.

When asked about not liking the effects, Bay said, “It’s a bit confusing. […] That day, you said something, [then] they took it out. ”

Bay explains a bit more about how CGI is used in Ambulance and how it fits into his overall process.

“We did very little CGI for this movie,” says Bay. “There were some really good pictures and then there were a few pictures where I was like, ‘I wish I had more time,’ whatever. There are some very good jobs [in this movie.] I’ve always had really good CGI. […] But yeah, there’s a lot of real explosions, real car crashes, real stuff. ”

Without skipping a beat, Bay recalls the early days of combining visual effects and reality in Bad boyand the hidden achievement of Pearl Harbor. He notes that the classic action movie earned him a place in the Guinness Book of World Records thanks to the complexity of one of the film’s explosive scenes (although The spectre then stole the title). According to Bay, once joined Pearl Harbor involved blowing up seven ships with 350 explosions in seven seconds, all while 20 planes took off. He said that “a lot of pressure, let me tell you, and it was a great, great shot – but it was true. “Then we add some other elements to it. But those were all real explosions, it took three months to build the truss.”

So while Bay says the viral clip of him beating his visual effects team was taken out of context, he’s still the one providing the realistic effects amplified by CG. .

“I’m the dying type when I do my own stunts, and we make it happen, and I work with the best people in the world. For me it is fun. I don’t like doing it in the computer”.

Ambulance will be released in US theaters on April 8.
