The Mishani brand will have a prominent presence in the $2 million Magic Millions Two-Year-Old Classic that will be contested over the 1200m at the Gold Coast on Saturday.
Coach Les Ross has qualified three horses for Magic Millions Classic for Mishani Enterprises Principal Mike Crooks…with Mishani Spartan stunning both the opposition and his bettors with his stormy finish last Saturday, coming from as far away as anyone can also think that he cannot win, to become the third athlete of ‘Mishani’ to do the final field after Mishani Warfare and Mishani Persuasion.
“The impression (created by Mishani’s Spartan effort) could have been magnified by the power of the actual court because they ran almost a second slower than the track,” said Ross. , “but it was a big effort…and certainly an improvement from Ipswich. ”
“Perhaps the flashing lights are the savior. Jackson Morris rode him at Ipswich. John Thompson, who trained many generations of Husson’s descendants at Patinack while he was there, called Jackson Morris and said they were improving the control panel with flash, so we chose to include them. …and, yes, he has certainly improved.
“I was hoping he could run second. Midway through, I certainly didn’t think he could win. I’m obviously very pleased he did, and it’s great to have three runners-up in the Millions. ”
Given the number of two-year-olds Ross has worked with, getting to this stage is a long, never easy process.
“I started at thirty,” says Ross. “Beyond thirty, we had a short list of three or four horses bred by Mission. I really want to get The Missions up and running because of the Aquis rewards for winning with them. That’s a $100,000 bonus for a win at the Metropolitan… and we were lucky enough to trap a few of them.
“Mike (Crooks) sent me the list of horses he paid for Magic Millions. As it gets closer, we have nominated horses everywhere. We tried to get them running to try and get the results we needed to get them to Magic Millions.
“I just need to give them a chance. Mishani Spartan for example isn’t one of my favorites, but they categorize themselves and he’s a real pleasant surprise.
“I really want to see Mishani Warfare win Classic. The first prize of $1.1 million is huge… but there are a million more reasons why I want Mishani Warfare to win. Aquis (head of The Mission) puts out a $100,000 bounty if we can win one in town with a two-year-old Mission. The bonus is 1 million dollars if you win millions!
“I take any of them to win, but, out of the three horses if Mishani Warfare can win, I’ll go back.
“Interestingly, Mike bought me ten goji berries… and I couldn’t get one of them to race. All three of those things, he bred himself.
“Whatever happens, it’s exciting… and that’s great, because Mike’s been so involved in the game and I owe him more than he owes me.”
About the record: Mishani Warfare is a two-time winner in five starts. He has a Metropolitan victory behind his name. Mishani Persuasion is another city winner with one win from five starts while Mishani Spartan is undefeated in two starts…one of four undefeated runners in the starting lineup…after that dazzling, eye-catching hit on Saturday.
