More than 3,500 DTC buses equipped with alarm buttons, CCTV: Government of Delhi


The issue of installing CCTV and control buttons in 43 DTC buses is still being considered by the government.

According to data from the Delhi government, 3,697 buses operated by Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC) are equipped with features such as alarm buttons and CCTV, although 43 vehicles in the fleet lack these features. This information was revealed by the city’s Transport Minister at the Delhi Council last week during their budget session.

While answering a question from Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MLA Pawan Kumar Sharma, Transport Minister Kailash Gahlot said, “CCTV cameras and alarm buttons have been installed on 3,697 DTC buses running on the city road. However, 43 DTC buses still do not have this device. . The issue of installing CCTV cameras and alarm buttons in these 43 DTC buses is under review by the government.”

He added that as of March 21, 2022, 9,181 police officers were deployed on DTC buses. He also further mentioned that the running cost per kilometer incurred on the DTC bus is 106 in the 2020-21 financial year. In a separate response to the BJP MLA query, Gahlot said the government has spent 13.06 crore per month in fiscal year 2020-21 for the deployment of officers in DTC buses.

In another reply to a question, the transport minister said that the DTC managed the monthly savings of 2.32 crore for the fiscal year 2020-21 while the company’s earnings for the same financial year were 454.42 crore. DTC spent 28.63 crore per month for fuel in fiscal year 2020-21, Gahlot told Delhi Council.

Gahlot also informed the house that the government had spent 114.86 crore for the provision of free travel for female passengers in the financial year 2020-21. He added, “DTC spent 53.12 crore monthly salary of the airline’s driver and bus operator. 32.68 crore was spent on driver salary and 20.44 crore on the conductor’s salary. “
