Wicketkeepers Rishabh Pant and Dinesh Karthik Both are included in India’s T20 World Cup squad, but it remains to be seen whether there is room for both to feature in the current squad. In the first T20I match against Australia, the team management chose Dinesh Karthik over Pant. However, the move not to send Karthik after the defeat of the fourth wicket in the 14th game, was criticized. Former Australian track and field athlete Adam Gilchrist has said that in his team, both Pant and Karthik will be present.
He also called Pant a “must” in the Indian squad.
“Rishabh Pant’s recklessness and courage for him, the way he does bowling attacks. I think he has to be a must-have in that Indian squad. They can play along. but I think Rishabh Pant was definitely there. The official ICC website quotes Fox commentator Gilchrist as saying.
“It would be interesting if both could play in the same team. I think they can. What they bring to a team, Dinesh Karthik’s flexibility, he can play at the top, he He can, as he did a lot more later in his career, in the mid and late game to finish. He has a really nice touch match,” he added.
Pant registered 934 runs in the 58 T20I with an average of 23.94 and a strike rate of 126.21. However, the left-handed player did not quite have the expected success in the shortest format.
Karthik was called up to the India squad earlier this year after some strong performances for Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) in the Indian Premier League (IPL).
