Neufbosc double eye in ATA Stock

Top coach Neville Parnham says Neufbosc is building top performance and believes the imported stay can rewind the clock in ATA Share (2200m) in Ascot on Saturday.

Neufbosc won the ATA Stakes two years ago before stepping back a week later and scoring a thrilling victory over Truly Great in the 2021 Perth Cup when ridden by Chris, Parnham’s jockey son.

Neufbosc, a gray steed named after a county in his native France, has found a new life on the firmer streets of Perth after he was originally purchased Is one Melbourne Horse Cup.

The former European Importer raced for the Lindsey Park operation in Melbourne, but fell short of his international form and didn’t claim a win before overtaking Nullarbor.

Under Parnham, he won the WA Stakes Listed Carbine Club (1400m) before going on to win the ATA Stakes and Perth Cup double in his first Perth campaign.

Parnham said Neufbosc is showing similar signs to a few years ago and points to the eight-year-old’s past two Ascot runs as proof he is building to peak form

Neufbosc pushed the well-run Morocco to second place in the AJScahill Cup (2100m) and a strong pursuit in third place behind Buster Bash in the Towton Cup (2200m).

“He keeps improving and that’s the plan,” Parnham said on Taradio.

“We want him to peak for Perth Cup time and he’s getting close to that now.

“I am expecting him to improve things on Saturday and run well.

“That will get him started right in the Perth Cup game.

“He’s a little bit old, but he’s in pretty good shape and probably the best he can be.

“He was probably close to where he was the first year I had him.

“He’s a fun horse and that’s his key, when he’s tossing around he usually tries to focus on race day and that’s how he is now.”

Neufbosc has drawn the third hurdle in the ATA Stake and will be driven by Brad Parnham.

With two rakes, the pitch was reduced to 10 starters.

Meanwhile, Parnham said the Indian Pacific-class sprinter will resume the race after a brief New Year’s Day break.

Parnham said: “He galloped at Ascot yesterday (Tuesday) and has been brilliant.

“I am very pleased with him and he will go to the Summer Top Scorer award.

“If he gets to the line, I hope to take him to Victoria, where there will be a 1200m straight race on 14 January.

“And then I’ll probably leave him there.”

Parnham also said he is trying to secure a spot for Bustler during the Quokka in Ascot on April 15.
