Lara Croft’s next adventure, the 13th main Tomb Raider game, is currently in development, Crystal Dynamics confirmed on Tuesday. Developer Says Next Tomb Raider Game Will Be Built Using Epic Games’ New Unreal Engine 5 Released to deliver “next-level storytelling and gaming experiences”. Crystal Dynamics has used its own Foundation Engine for the recent Tomb Raider games.
Dallas Dickinson, general manager of the franchise for Tomb Raider, said Crystal Dynamics has just “started development” of the next game in the series, adding, “Our goal is to promote an honest and authentic style to the high cinematic, action-adventure experience fans deserve from both Crystal Dynamics and the Tomb Raider franchise. ”
The most recent game in the franchise, 2018 Shadow of the Tomb Raider, which includes the Survivor film trilogy, a second attempt at rebooting Lara Croft’s roots as an adventure seeker, archaeologist, and treasure hunter. Crystal Dynamics said last year they planned unifying the timeline of classic and modern Tomb Raider gamesas it develops new adventures for Lara.
Crystal Dynamics and Tomb Raider publisher Square Enix didn’t give any kind of timeline of the new Tomb Raider, nor did they show any kind of visual teaser. But Crystal Dynamics’ announcement was followed by another revelation: Jeff Ross, who led the development of Day by day at Sony’s Bend Studio, announced Tuesday he has joined Crystal Dynamics as game director, but did not disclose for which project. “That’s all I can say other than that I’m very excited about the project and especially the team of really amazing people,” Ross said on Twitter.

Other announced projects by Crystal Dynamics include the ongoing development of Marvel’s Avengers – also built into Crystal Dynamics Platform Tools – and co-developed New Perfect darkness game for Microsoft, supporting lead developer The Initiative.
Tomb Raider is also being adapted into an animated series for Netflix. The Tomb Raider anime series will be written and run by Tasha Huo, who is also working on it The Witcher: Blood Origin, a live-action spinoff of the popular fantasy series.
