We have entered Week 3 of NFL Season. Can you believe it? More importantly, we’ve seen some great betting trends and outcomes coming to fruition. Now let’s keep it rolling!
For the second week in a row, FOX Sports Research had some big wins in last week’s trend. Two digits below two digits are covered, four digits below are covered or pushed, Aaron Rodgers covered, Kliff Kingsbury continues to dominate as bot laner, Detroit Lion in their first instance as a home favorite under Dan Campbell and Sean McDermott once again dominated as a double-digit favorite.
FOX Sports Research is poring over the data to give you more winners this weekend. We analyzed overall patterns and many trends specifically for coaches and players.
Here’s a look at the major trends that stand out, with odds polite FOX bets.
More visits in week 3
Our data tells us that visits were historically lower in Weeks 1 and 2, but not this time. No matter what time frame you watch from, results are almost always achieved in Week 3.
Below, we list how often numbers come through in the third week of the season from different historical periods:
Since 1995: 51.3% (203/396)
Since 2005: 54.2% (142/262)
From 2015: 55.5% (61/110)
Teams lost 0-2 in Week 3
It’s always been tough to bet on non-winning teams, so this trend may surprise some. However, our data shows teams 0-2 in Week 3 looking back on the past 21 seasons. Since 2000, coverage has ranged from 53% to 60.5% for teams entering Week 3 with a 0-2 record.
Since 2000: 53% (88/166)
Since 2005: 55.6% (75/135)
Since 2010: 58.9% (56/95)
Since 2015: 58.3% (35/60)
From 2017: 60.5% (26/43)
Five teams fit this bill on Sunday, with two of them playing against each other (Raiders at Titans).
Sean McDermott Owns Dolphins
We sang Buffalo Bills‘praise over the past two weeks, with Week 3 being no different. Sean McDermott is an incredible 6-3-1 against the spread (ATS) (66.7%) and 9-1 straight up (SU) (90%) vs. Miami Dolphins. Josh Allen was center in eight of those games, with scores of 4-3-1 ATS (57.1%) and 7-1 SU (87.5%).
For what it’s worth, a loss came in Miami in 2018, where Sunday’s game will be. Mike McDaniel’s lineup is also having a nasty win against Baltimore Raven last week. Buffalo is currently the favorite 5.5 points.
The Saints Triumph and Fight the Panthers
The New Orleans Saints didn’t have the best start. In Week 1, they won by one point first Atlanta Falconsfollowed by a 20-10 loss at home vs Tampa Bay Buccaneers Last Sunday. However, this week the Saints have to face Carolina Panthers, so far 0-2 ATS and 0-2 SU. Back in 2014, New Orleans was 10-6 ATS (62.5%) and SU over Carolina in the regular season.
It is also worth noting that the win rate occurred in 10 of those matches at a rate of 62.5%.
The Saints are currently a 3-point favorite at FOX Bet.
Rams should win and cover vs Cardinals
This is a bit surprising because The Arizona Cardinals‘ won the magic comeback of last season and Los Angeles Rams‘ The beginning of the season was difficult, but history says otherwise. As of 2015, the Rams are 11-3 ATS (78.6%) and SU against the Cardinals. Specifically under Sean McVay (as of 2017), Los Angeles is 10-5 ATS (66.7%) and SU in top lane compared to NFC West.
If you like the trend, Los Angeles is currently the 3.5-point favorite at the FOX Bet.
Search for the Cowboys to fight the Giants
Another difficulty here is Dallas Cowboys still no Dak Prescott, but there are a few trends heading towards Dallas. As of 2015, the Cowboys are 8-5-1 ATS (61.5%) and 10-4 SU (71.4%) over New York Giants. They are also 5-2 ATS (71.4%) and SU in Monday’s games during that same time period.
Dallas is also 17-7 ATS (70.8%) and 18-6 SU (75%) against rival NFC East as of 2018, with overshoot rates in 15 of those games (62, 5%).
Also, a reminder that Cooper Rush was 2-0 ATS and 2-0 SU at the start of his career. The Cowboys opened as under 2.5 at the FOX Bet, with the roster reduced to one.
Andy Reid covers like a favorite and dominating street in Week 3
Andy Reid is a cover machine when a road is loved like Chief of Kansas City head coach, going 27-17 ATS (61.4%) and 34-10 SU (77.3%). He also dominated history in Week 3. As head coach (including his time with Philadelphia Eagles), Reid is 16-6 ATS (72.7%) and SU in Week 3 games.
What’s more, the 7-4 ATS (63.6%) and 10-1 SU (90.9%) lead are six-to-eight-point line favorites under Reid. Kansas City is currently a favorite 6.5 points against Indianapolis Colts at FOX Bet.
