Government of Nicaragua brought CNN en Español to the air, shortly after 10 p.m. local time on Wednesday.
It did not explain why it removed CNN’s spanish service and did not respond to CNN’s request for comment. Cable operators transmitting CNN en Español in the country also did not respond.
CNN en Español said: “Today, the Nicaraguan government withdrew our television signal, denying Nicaraguans news and information from our television network, on which they have relied for 25 years. years,” said CNN en Español.
The US-based service says Nicaraguans can continue to find news in Spanish on their website.
“CNN en Español will continue to fulfill its responsibility to the Nicaraguan public by providing our news links on CNNEspanol.com, so they can access information not available to them under any other way.”
“CNN supports our network’s reporting and our commitment to truth and transparency,” the statement also said, “At CNN en Español, we believe in the vital role nature plays. by the press in a healthy democracy.”
