Safety is the number one concern when it comes to tire maintenance; but underinflated tires can also cost consumers money by reducing fuel economy. NHTSA says keeping tires properly inflated can save up to 11 cents per gallon and can extend tire life by 4,700 miles.

Nissan’s Easy Fill Tire Warning technology allows under-inflated tires to be fully inflated to the recommended pressure in about half the time compared to using a traditional tire gauge. Currently in approximately 9 million Nissan vehicles, this feature helps consumers fill their tires at a gas station or in their garage to the correct pressure every time. All this is done without the need for hand-held pressure gauges or looking up exact tire pressure numbers.

Selim Hammoud, Director, Chief Safety Officer, NNA, Nissan North America, said: “Ensuring your tires are inflated to the correct pressure is a very simple step consumers can take to help their vehicle. safer, especially when starting holiday road trips.” “Nissan’s Easy Tire Fill Warning takes the guesswork out of tire filling and makes simple vehicle maintenance less intimidating for the average driver.”

How it works:

  • Park the vehicle in a safe location and apply the handbrake.
  • Park the vehicle (automatic transmission) and leave the ignition in the “on” position (accessory mode) when the engine is off.
  • As air begins to fill the tire, the exterior light begins to flash to indicate that the Easy Tire Warning is monitoring changes in air pressure.
  • When the correct tire pressure is reached, the car horn will sound.
  • If the tire is overinflated, the horn will sound again and the hazard light will flash three times, signaling the need to de-air.

In the current lineup, the Easy-Fill Tire Alert is available on 13 different nameplates: Versa, Sentra, Altima, Maxima, LEAF, Kicks, Rogue, Rogue Sport, Murano, Pathfinder, Armada, Frontier and TITAN.
