Conference commendation committees in three more states – MaharashtraTN and Bihar – passed “unanimous” resolutions on Monday in favor of Rahul Gandhi for the position of party chairman, adding strength to a campaign that began in candidate Ashok Gehlot’s backyard, Rajasthan, over the weekend and spread to Chhattisgarh and Gujarat.
In Maharashtra, former CM Ashok Chavan delivered a resolution urging Rahul to come to power, which was endorsed by former ministers Chandrakant Handore and Naseem Khan. The Mumbai Regional Parliamentary Committee also fought for the former party leader to pass a resolution supported by former minister Milind Deora.
Tamil Nadu PCC said its stance was confirmed by the 652-member joint body.
The TNCC said Rahul’s election as party chairman was crucial “to ensure that democratic and secular forces register victory in the 2024 general election”.
“This meeting particularly believes that only when Rahul Gandhi assumes this responsibility will India’s future be bright,” said PCC chief KS, KS Alagiri, reading out the decision to applause from audience.
In Patna, a total of 587 newly elected PCC members and delegates unanimously approved their adoption of a resolution for Rahul to lead the next Parliament. Lok Sabha elections.
