Officials say the Ukrainian conductor was killed by Russian troops at his home

According to Ukrainian officials, a criminal investigation has been launched into the death of a Ukrainian orchestra conductor in Russian-occupied Kherson.

A statement from the local prosecutor’s office said the commander was shot by Russian forces at his home in Kherson “because he refused to cooperate with them”.

The Ukrainian Ministry of Culture and Information Policy has identified the conductor as Yuriy Kerpatenko of the Kherson Regional Symphony Orchestra.

According to the ministry, Kerpatenko has worked with the local harmonist since 2000 and was also the conductor of the Kherson Theater-based Gilea Chamber Orchestra in 2004.

In homage, the ministry said Kerpatenko had “publicly demonstrated his citizenship position and refused to leave occupied Kherson.”

The prosecutor’s office did not specify when the murder occurred, but said, “the deceased stopped communicating with relatives in September of this year”.

“The Kherson District Attorney’s Office conducts procedural administration in criminal proceedings initiated based on violations of the laws and customs of war, combined with the charge of attempted murder,” the statement reads. know more.

The Kherson area, considered crucial for controlling Ukraine’s southern coast and entrance to the Black Sea, was one of the first areas occupied by Russian troops when they invaded more than six months ago.
