Dimension 20next Dungeons & Dragons The actual gameplay campaign offers something even more dangerous than Demogorgon – a regency romance. A Court of Fey & Hoa is a 10-part tabletop role-playing series, premiering August 3 on TV dropped out of school. The announcement was made on Wednesday, accompanied by a new intro. Polygon sat down with game master Aabria Iyengar to find out what was in store.
Iyengar is an adept at working with groups in Dimension 20. Her first appearance with the crew was in 2020. Pirates of Leviathanwhere she shares the table with Matt Mercer, Marisha Rayand B. Dave Walters. Since then, Iyengar’s GM career has grown, leading to additional opportunities with Important role and Adventure Zone, among others. Now, she’s back and making headlines for Dimension 20’s next reality play campaign. Her goal? To make a “big hit” when moving the vehicle forward.
Iyengar told Polygon: “There is something special about Dimension 20 that scratches every beautiful part of comedy and that incredibly creative improvisation and storytelling. “It opened up new possibilities for the kind of stories you can tell compared to the kind of epic, high-end fantasy D&D games I like. [grew up with]. “
The plan is to combine traditional D&D with Good societyan indie RPG on the table of Storyteller. In one recent rotationThe polygon is called Good society “The gold standard in Regency role-playing.” It was a system that Iyengar loved.
“There’s something about mechanics and how they’re written Good society that allows you to get on board with that kind of storytelling,” says Iyengar. “It shows you the specific ways your character presents himself. There is a gossip phase and a letter writing phase, and reputation markers and a reputation economy. [I] very happy to join [that] into the story. “
All the characters in the table will be folk tales – called Fey in the local language. Iyengar says they are “the closest thing we have to the idle rich” in D&D. The characters come together to celebrate the Festival of Bloom, a magical event that fills Feywild and its neighboring kingdoms with magical energy. But a new and mysterious threat emerges, and it’s up to the characters to sort things out – plus they’ll navigate their budding relationships. The cast includes 20 veteran Dimension players Brennan Lee MulliganLou Wilson, and Emily Axford with newcomers Surena Marie, Oscar Montoyaand Omar Najam.
Actual gameplay tends to run for a long time, so it can require a lot of time investment from fans to stay up to date. So where should people focus their attention during the first few shows? Iyengar says that the premiere will have a lot to foreshadow for the next nine episodes.
“I’m a big fan of having each character introduce themselves on their field,” Iyengar said. “I think there’s something very important with the way some of our characters are introduced to tell you everything you need to know about them and the world they function so effectively within. […] Pay attention to the stage the characters are setting, because they will tell you exactly who they are when they are alone. Then it becomes interesting to see who they become and who they change and the stereotypes they come into or out of as they attack Fey society. ”
