One year has passed since the death of Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh and her husband Queen Elizabeth. The son of Prince Andrew of Greece and Denmark and Princess Alice of Battenberg has been married to the Queen since 1947 and is just two months away from his 100th birthday when he dies.
While the Royal Family plans to spend the day in private, according to report, the queen’s social media arm sent out a video that captures special moments in the prince’s life. Accompanying the images is a poem, “The Patriarchs – An Elegy,” written by current UK award-winning poet, Simon Armitage.
“The weather outside the window this morning was snowing, debris flying out of season, one last shiver of slow winter,” the evocative poem begins.
The poem has also been shared by Prince William and Kate Middleton.
Prince Charles and Camilla Parker Bowles retweeted the original message, and also shared pictures of themselves.
