Black Rebecca opens up about a super sketchy thing that happened in her past!
Notorious Friday The singer first went viral with her teen hit over a decade ago. And in recent years, in addition to working through a singing career as a young girl, she’s also looking back at viral popularity.
On Tuesday, she arrived TikTok to recount a particularly embarrassing episode of her past. The 25-year-old star made her video the soundtrack of Nicki Minajthe song of Super weird girl, and sing to the beat of the beat. In her solo story, Black recounts how she was 14 years old circa 2011 when she and her mother, Georgina Marquez Kellywas contacted by a “distant relative” living in Mexico.
Black begins the story:
“One thing about me is that my mother is a Mexican immigrant, and when I was 14 years old, she was told by a distant relative that there was a Rebecca Black fan club in this small town in Mexico. , and they also wanted to give me the key to the city. “
Not considering that this “Black Rebecca Fan Club” might not be what it looks like, the singer recalled how she and her mother jumped on a plane to Mexico.
When they arrive in town, they express what they think is a meet and greet. However, they were ushered into a room with an “audience of about 20,” all wearing matching T-shirts. They also entered another room, where dozens of men in suits were standing.
“They took us to some big fancy house, and then they put us in a room full of men in suits. I meet them all. They put me and my mother in front of the walk and repeat with a table and microphone. It looked like a press conference, and my mother was next to me acting as an interpreter.”
People suddenly started asking Rebecca questions about politics and voting. Some people in the room asked questions about Enrique Peña Nieto, who was competing at the time to be the next President of Mexico. With her mother acting as the translator, she tried to play cool:
“People in the crowd started asking me questions, like ‘How do you like Mexico?’ and ‘How do you feel about voting rights?’ and ‘How do you feel about the Mexican presidential candidate?’ at that time. So I said, ‘Yes, great. He’s really great. Voting is great. I’m sure it will all be great, ‘I don’t really know what I’m talking about.’
OH MY GOD!
It was only after boarding a flight back to the United States that Black realized he might have been duped. She began to think about how she never received the keys to any city, just like she had originally promised.
She also explains how Twitter the headlines started telling her that something was wrong:
“I was surfing on Twitter before the flight took off, and I started seeing headlines about me and how I endorsed the Mexican presidential candidate at the time. And then I realized that my entire family had been tricked by a distant relative who worked for his presidential campaign to endorse Mexico’s presidential candidate at the time. . And the world thinks I did it at the age of 14 when I had never heard of this man in my life.”

However, not long after Black’s unfortunate meeting, Nieto won the election and served as Mexico’s 64th president through November 2018. However, he suffered low approval ratings during his time at and was accused by the Office of the Attorney General of Mexico of mishandling political donations. He was even accused of stealing his law school thesis idea! So this is probably not the best look for when Black will come back.
Of course, she was only 14 years old at the time, so there’s no doubt she was put in a very uncomfortable situation.
However, what an awkward event!
