Roblox can be enjoy success in many parts of the world, but it is currently in limbo in China. TechCrunch Yes have learned Roblox temporarily shut down the Chinese version of their game platform, LuoBuLeSi, on December 8 because of some “important interim action” needed to develop a future version. The company is apprehensive about those moves regarding “data architecture,” but a spokesperson said creating the platform for China is an “iterating process.”
The pause did not thrill fans. Roblox only launched LuoBuLeSi 5 months before it closed, and many players feel the company gave them very short notice. They also don’t buy an official request they played the beta, note they can still spend real money.
It is possible that China’s strict digital rules may have played a role. Chinese government Request a license for the gameand Roblox is more of a challenge than most developers. Its role as an innovation platform could easily attract interest from Chinese censors worried about dissent and efforts to make LuoBuLeSi a digital education system. may have drawn attention from officials repressing private education. Of China data protection rules may also contribute to the decision by specifying where and how Roblox stores user information.
Whatever the reason, this pause highlights the difficulties foreign game developers are facing in China. Not only do they have to compete in one of the world’s largest markets, but they also have to avoid clashing with a government that sometimes has very different agendas.
