A mysterious rock was discovered in 2015 by an Australian man named David Hole, who was searching for gold near Melbourne. He assumed there was something heavy inside because of the huge weight of the rock. The rock then turned out to contain priceless raindrops dating from the formation of our solar system, which are rarer and more valuable than the gold he was looking for, according to the report. Science Alert.

The science magazine further explains that to circumvent his finding, Hole tried rock saws, angle grinders, drills, and even dipped the thing in acid. However, even a sledgehammer could not create a crack. That’s because what he worked so hard to open wasn’t a gold nugget. When he discovered it many years later, it was a rare meteorite.

Geologist Dermot Henry of the Melbourne Museum said: ‘It looks like a sculpture, with dimples. Sydney Morning Newspaper in 2019.

“That’s formed as they pass through the atmosphere, they melt on the outside and the atmosphere makes them.”

The Sydney Morning Newspaper added that testing quickly confirmed their suspicions. The rock is a 4.6 billion year old meteorite. It is now called the Maryborough meteorite, and it is very heavy because, unlike the standard rocks of the Earth, it is filled with very dense forms of iron and nickel.

Mr. Henry used a super-hard diamond saw to cut the edge, revealing a cross-section of small silver raindrops.

These were once drops of silicate minerals that crystallized from the superheated gas cloud that formed our solar system. “Here, you’re looking back at the formation of the solar system,” said Henry.
