Via Jim Calfa: Shakur Stevenson thinks Rolando ‘Rolly’ Romero “Bad” as a boxer, and he predicts Gervonta ‘Tank’ Davis will knock him out in their fight May 28 on Showtime pay-per-view at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York.
WBO ultralightweight champion Stevenson watched some of the fights of undefeated WBA lightweight No. 1 competitor Rolly, and he said “garbage” and deserve to lose the fight against Jackson Marinez in 2020.
Kt Rolly won that match by unanimous decision in the 12th round, but many fans felt that Marinez should have raised his hand. It was a tough fight to score points because kt Rolly hit some horrible hits in each round. However, Marinez did his best with Rolly, but the power was not for him.
In recognition of his credit, Marinez took them, but it seems bad he got hit with punches that would knock out most fighters at 135. Rolly’s punch was like a muscle weight. Weld. He hits really hard, and he’s awkward, making it hard for him to deal with.
Stevenson feels that kt Rolly hasn’t fought anyone of note, but he’s getting a shot at tanking Tank Davis (26-0.24 KOs) for his ‘regular’ WBA lightweight title on the 28th. May during the main event on PPV on Showtime.
Rolly, 26, the same promoter as Gervonta, 27, is signed to Mayweather Promotions, making the fight a no-brainer for them.
Shakur predicts KO for Tank Davis
“Increased by knockout. I think Rolly is bad“Shakur Stevenson said to Fighthype. “I think he is one of the worst fighters in boxing. I feel like he’s not fighting anyone, but he’s having a chance right now because he’s not fighting anyone.
“When he had a tough fight, he lost,” Shakur talks about kt Rolly’s controversial 12th round unanimous decision against Jackson Marinez in 2020.
The umpires gave it to Rolly because his shots were too hard for Marinez, and that made scoring difficult. Yes, Marinez lands more often, but Rolly’s punches are strong.
When they land, you can see the difference in power. Martinez showed a great chin in that fight, but he didn’t do him any good.
“We want to talk about my battle with [Jeremiah] Nakathilia; I won every round,” Shakur said. “In my fight with Nakathilia, I won every round, but he fought that guy [Marinez]and apparently he lost the war, and they gave him the fight.
“So it was a bad night for him,” Shakur said of Rolly. “A bad night for me is because I dominate. You don’t hear anyone saying Nakathilia was robbed or anything like that,” Stevenson said.
You could argue that kt Rolly made it more interesting in his controversial win over Jackson Marinez than Shakur Stevenson did in his boring win over Jeremiah Nakathilia.
Stevenson used his pullback style throughout the night, backing up after every punch he threw. It makes him look weak and timid. Rolly finds the battle with Marinez more interesting than Stevenson versus Nakathilia.
Stevenson Says Rolly Is “Junk”
“I watched him fight, and I wasn’t impressed. I think he’s trash,“Stevenson continues on Rolly Romero. “He needs to stop talking about groping. He said a lot of nonsense.
“In due time, Tank will put him to bed. I cannot wait. Yeah, I think that’s the best thing about him. He fights like [Richardo] Mayorga,” Stevenson said comparing him to retired former two-division world champion Richardo Mayorga (32-12-1, 26 KOs).
“He’s a bit clumsy like you said and a bit strong, but the skill pays the bills. I feel that Tank is very skillful, and he will use his skills and set him up for a big shot.
“It could even be a body shot. I hope it’s a body shot. I pray that it was a body shot. I think a body shot will convince a lot of people.
“I hope he hits him with a shot to the body,” said Shakur, wishing that would stop kt Rolly Romero with a punch in the middle.
