Rudy Giuliani ordered to testify before a Georgia grand jury investigating Trump on Aug

Giuliani, a former attorney for Trump, has subpoenas earlier this month. The order to appear on August 9 comes after Giuliani failed to appear at a hearing in New York about blocking the subpoena.

CNN has reached out to Giuliani’s attorney for comment.

Several state officials have been subpoenaed and appeared before a special grand jury as Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis continues to lead an investigation that delves into the former President’s actions in Georgia. Republican Senator Lindsey Graham was also subpoenaed earlier this month along with other former Trump campaign legal advisers, including John Eastman, Cleta Mitchell, Jenna Ellis and Kenneth Chesebro.

Third, it was revealed that Willis also notified all 16 individuals who signed an “unofficial election certificate” that was eventually sent to the National Archives in late 2020 that they could be prosecuted for in the investigation.

Prosecutors could move closer to possible criminal charges against those involved in the effort. A judge in Georgia initially approved Willis’s attempt to subpoena Giuliani earlier this month. Because Giuliani was a New York resident, his summons was forwarded to a court there, where a New York judge scheduled the trial giving Giuliani a chance to dismiss the summons. When Trump’s former attorney did not show up, the New York judge signed the order for Giuliani’s testimony.

CNN previously reported that Giuliani was one of the few witnesses subpoenaed in connection with their appearance before Georgia state legislators in December 2020. During his appearance in early December, Giuliani had provided testimony, witnesses and so-called evidence of voter fraud, according to court records. Even after those allegations were investigated and dismissed, Giuliani “issued additional statements, both to the public and in subsequent legislative hearings, claiming widespread voter fraud in the country.” Georgia in the November 2020 election,” by raising the same piece of evidence previously disclosed, according to court filings.
