Russia will not participate in the Euro 2024 qualifying draw, UEFA and the country’s football federation confirmed on Tuesday. The Russian national team and Russian clubs were banned from international competition by UEFA earlier this year following the invasion of Ukraine. “All Russian teams are currently suspended following a decision of the UEFA Executive Committee dated 28 February 2022 confirmed by the Court of Arbitration for Sport on 15 July 2022,” the governing body said. European football said in a statement.
“As a result, Russia was not included in the UEFA European Football Championship 2022-24 qualifying draw.”
Russia protested the ban, which was rejected by the CAS in July. The Russian Football Federation said: “The federation is currently waiting for the full text of the CAS decision, after studying the decision to be made on the next steps,” the Russian Football Federation said.
Russia is also banned by FIFA from participating in the upcoming World Cup in Qatar. Initially, the team made it through to the knockout round of the European qualifiers.
The Russian women’s team was also eliminated from this year’s Euro in England, with their place being Portugal. The 2024 European Championships will be hosted by Germany, with the qualifying draw taking place on 9 October in Frankfurt.
The German Interior Minister has also asked Belarus to be banned from participating in the tournament because it has Russia’s backing.
