Sam Bankman-Fried, founder of FTX, arrested in the Bahamas

New York

Sam Bankman-Fried, the founder of failed crypto exchange FTX, was arrested in the Bahamas on Monday after US prosecutors filed criminal charges against him, according to a statement from Bahamas government.

The Southern District of New York, which is investigating Bankman-Fried and the collapse of FTX, confirmed his arrest on Twitter.

US Attorney Damian Williams wrote: “Early this morning, Bahamian authorities arrested Samuel Bankman-Fried at the request of the United States government, based on a sealed indictment filed by SDNY. “We are expected to proceed with the unsealing of the indictment in the morning and will have much to say by that time.”

Representatives for Bankman-Fried’s legal team did not immediately respond to CNN’s request for comment.
