After two rounds of pre-season testing in Barcelona and Bahrain, Vettel is finally ready to kick off its 2022 campaign in the Middle East. However, Aston Martin confirmed a positive Covid test result on Thursday, just one day before the Bahrain Grand Prix qualifiers begin.
Aston Martin immediately named their replacement for the illustrious German driver, as they wanted a strong start to 2022. And it came in the form of another experienced driver, who. has been out of F1 since 2020.
The builder’s announcement on Thursday read: “Sebastian Vettel has tested positive for Covid-19 and therefore will not participate in the Bahrain Grand Prix 2022. Replacing him in the AMR22 will be Aston Martin Aramco Cognizant Formula 1 Team reserve driver Nico Hulkenberg, who will be in the car from FP1 onwards. ”
Vettel became the second F1 driver to contract the virus in the last week. It comes after Daniel Ricciardo, of McLaren, tested positive – who was forced to miss the entire final test in Bahrain.
However, the attractive Australian driver will return to compete for the opening round of F1. And he will be desperate to continue the recent impressive form of McLaren, who helped them to 4th in the constructors rankings last term.
