Singer LeAnn Rimes reveals ‘Dark place’ before mental health treatment in 2012

My path lesson is opening up about her past struggles with mental health.

The country singer is definitely an industry vet, having shot to stardom with her first hit single. Blue in 1996 when she was 13 years old and has since maintained a steady career. However, we all know the stories of young artists overwhelmed by the weight of fame at a young age – and LeAnn is unfortunately the exception. In an article published Friday, she explains Insiders the amount that the spotlight has taken on her as an adult:

“Being in the public eye since I was very young and having to get over who I am, I think that was a huge part of my experience with anxiety and depression and what caused it. .”

Wow, that’s a poignant way to say it… must “overwrite” her persona! She recalls having to work as a “superman” as a teenager, leading to both physical and mental stress. She even documented one instance where she was out on stage “with a fever of 104 degrees.” What??! It’s just irresponsible on her part! She added:

“I fainted backstage at 14 years old. I had to step off the stage a few times and was like, ‘I can’t finish the show.’

Well, we definitely get what she means by now… Definitely says a lot about the industry. The singer went on to explain that when she turned 30 in 2012, she knew she needed professional help due to her compromised mental condition:

“I was in a very, very dark place. I have never been alone. There’s always someone around, whether it’s a parent or a manager, an agent or a journalist, or a husband, or whatever.”

If you don’t remember, LeAnn was married to Dean Sheremet from 2002 to 2010, and then married her current husband (whom she was cheating scandal with) Eddie Cibrian 2011. 39 years old continue:

“It’s time for me to get out of my deep dependence and figure out what’s going on chemically so I can take care of myself.”

Better for her for trying to control her life than continuing to let her life and career control her. LeAnn also notes that growing up, she remembers her mother struggling with anxiety and depression, which she thinks aside from fame, she also had a role to play in her own mental health.

But it seems the mental health disruption has done some good for LeAnne, as she says Katie Couric at the time of her 30-day treatment:

“I love being there, and it’s great to have other people going through the same thing have empathy and understanding.”

Sometimes all you need is some sincere support for you as a person – not as your idol, singer or career, but YOU.
