“Someone else will take your place…”: Gautam Gambhir’s stern warning to KL Rahul for Lean Patch

KL Rahul has been consistently on the radar of recent critics. There is no doubt about Rahul’s talent and potential, but it is his form that has brought the player under criticism. Former Indian player Gautam Gambhir thinks Rahul needs to show up or someone else will take his place on the team. Notably, the hitter is not part of India’s upcoming T20I series against Sri Lanka, while he will be in the ODIs squad against that side.

“You can only control what you can control. You can’t control the selectors, you can’t control what happens in the next series. You have three ODIs against Sri Lanka. If plan to play that game, just be in the present. And that’s all you can control. The moment you start thinking about things you can’t control, you’re putting too much pressure (on yourself), ” Gambhir said in Star Sports’ ‘Chat with Champions’.

“If you don’t do it, eventually someone else will take your place. It’s not just with Sanju or KL, it’s with Virat kohli and Rohit Sharma too. That’s what international cricket is all about, you have to accept it. No one is indispensable. So you have three ODIs, you hit the average, try and hit those runs, because in the end it’s the performance that keeps you going. Not the name or how much talent you have,” he added.

India hosts Sri Lanka for three T20Is and multiple ODIs. Matches between the two sides will start with the shortest format at Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai on January 3, 2022. The ODI series will begin on January 10.
