The Sri Lanka cricket team had a shock in the opening match of the T20 World Cup 2022 against Namibia, losing to the opponent by 55 runs. The Lankans surprised Namibia in the match, the better player in every aspect of the game. While the results took many fans by surprise, Sri Lanka was nothing like itself and failed to achieve the title of ‘Asian Champion’. An incident from the match ended the same.
A total of 8 teams participated in the first round of the match, with 4 teams qualifying for the Super 12 round. Sri Lanka, despite being one of the favorites to go through and the defending Asian Cup champions, was knocked out by the Namibian cults in Sunday’s opening match.
In their match, Sri Lanka conceded a terrifying subversion that was encapsulated in their lack of focus on the game. Not even a single run but the Namibian players managed to add 1 to their total as a complete bonus. Here is the video of the incident:
It was the 9th inning of the match when the incident occurred. Cricket goalkeeper Kusal Mendis throws the ball unnecessarily, confusing the two players and allowing the Namibian smashers to eat a single ball.

Namibia looked eager to post a large sum on the board during the innings. Jan Frylinck is Namibia’s top scorer, scoring 44 times making 28 passes. Even Loftie-Eaton, Stephan Baard and Gerhard Erasmus created favorable headers to take the team’s lead to 163/7.
In response, Sri Lanka was only able to score 108 runs, thus incurring a loss of 55 runs.
Talking about the win, Namibia captain Erasmus said: “It’s been incredible, last year was a special experience for us. We have started a great victory, but there is still a lot to go. It’s a historic day for us. Opening day is quite special but we want to play from here and qualify for the Super 12 stage. understand the bigger picture Credit goes to Pierre (de Bruyn) as the way he has coached this team one is a winning culture and the other is a put together With limited resources I don’t think anyone other could run such a cramped train.”
The African side will be determined to maintain this momentum at least until. Super 12s stage of the tournament.
