Sunday rituals to start your week off right

My recent mantra is simple: do less. This opposite approach can sometimes be a struggle because my brain is constantly repeating the opposite. It tells me that nothing is ever quite right, that I need to do more to get everything “just right”.

To me, this shift towards doing less was especially apparent on Sunday. I used to consider Sunday only a successful day if I cleaned the whole house, top to bottom. Now, I take a much gentler approach to preparing our home and myself for the week ahead.

Today, I’m going to share the Sunday rituals I’m practicing now—and a few that I’d like to start!

The beauty of these rituals is that they are all small in size and easily accessible. This means that if I have a bad Sunday and don’t get any of it done, I can easily tackle them the next day and get back on track.

Sunday rituals begin each week on the best note

1. Practice gratitude.

Before going to bed, I like to write down a simple list of ten things I’m grateful for in my life. Just one word, no sentence. This helps put things in perspective before the busy week begins. It’s especially helpful if I’m thinking too much about something or worrying about things I can’t control.

2. Do the movement 15-30 minutes.

Today, my workout mantra is a lot different than it used to be: Complete, not perfect. For me, it’s about getting myself moving and sweating a little—it doesn’t need to be more complicated than that. I created a workout schedule for myself to keep the approach really simple. I usually set a goal for myself to be physically active for 15-30 minutes, even on Sundays. It became a habit that I just got up and did.

3. Clean up the areas that need cleaning the most.

Instead of tasking myself with cleaning the entire house every Sunday like I used to, my Sunday cleaning routine revolves around checking in with myself to see which specific areas are causing me stress and only solve those problems. Last Sunday, I realized that the condition of our master bathroom was getting out of control. I spent fifteen minutes cleaning and organizing it and then I feel so much better.

4. Plan for next week.

Although I don’t actively do this every Sunday right now, I’d love to get into the habit again! Taking a moment to consciously plan for the next week is something most of us can benefit from. This type of planning helps clarify the big tasks and projects for the coming week—both in my work and personal life. That way, even when the whole week gets hectic and hectic, I can still prioritize my top priorities.

5. Plan your meals.

I hate having to decide what to cook for dinner at the last minute—which, unfortunately, has become more common lately. To get to a place where this doesn’t happen often, I really want to get back into my Sunday meal planning routine! I know this will save money and stress all week.

What are the rituals you practice every Sunday? Which ones do you want to do?
