Super Bowl 2023: By numbers

The two teams remain as the quest to win the Lombardi Cup culminates in Arizona on Sunday.
The Philadelphia Eagles And Chief of Kansas City are preparing to play in NFL Biggest game of the year. And when you prepare your own food and housing for the show, FOX Sports has you covered super bowl By The Numbers edition.
Here are the numbers you need to know for Sunday’s big game.
first: This Super Bowl has a lot of firsts:
- For the first time in NFL history, the Super Bowl will have two Black starting QBs
- It’s also the first Super Bowl where two brothers competed against each other
- If the Eagles are still popular, this will be the first post-season game in which Patrick Mahomes is a loser
- For the first time since 2017, both 1st seeds have won the Super Bowl
3: Travis Kelce scored at least three receptions in 17 consecutive playoffs, the longest such record in league history.
3: The Eagles will make their third Super Bowl appearance since the 2004 season, showcasing different QB-coach combinations in all three:
- 2022: Nick Sirianni + Jalen hurts
- 2017: Doug Pederson + Nick Foles
- 2004: Andy Reid + Donovan McNabb
4: The Eagles were the first team in NFL history to have four players with 10 bags each. If they win, they will be the first team to lead the league and win the Super Bowl since 2015.
4: If he wins the AP Player of the Year award and beats the Eagles, Mahomes will be the fourth QB to win two AP MVPs along with two Super Bowl wins, joining brave catJoe Montana and Peyton Manning.
5: If the Captain wins, Patrick Mahomes will be the fifth youngest QB to win two Super Bowls.
5: This will be the fifth instance of a coach going up against his former team in the Super Bowl, with Reid having coached the Eagles for 14 seasons (1999-2012). In the previous four cases, the meetings were divided into 2-2:
- 1968 season: Weeb Ewbank wins with New York Jets (beat Baltimore pony)
- 1998 season: Dan Reeves loses to Atlanta Falcon (Dancer broncos win)
- 2002 season: Jon Gruden wins with Tampa Bay Buccaneers (beat Oakland assault)
- 2014 season: Pete Carroll lost to Seattle Seahawks football team (New England Patriots win)
5: The Eagles are looking to become the first team to lead the league in rush touchdowns and win the Super Bowl since 1998 (Broncos). Teams in that period are 0-5.
6: The captain is the sixth team to win the Super Bowl despite a losing record against the spread (ATS).
7: This will be the seventh Super Bowl that the regular-season lead in passing yards has won the Super Bowl. The previous six times they all lost.
- 1984 season: Dan Marino, lose San Francisco 49ers in the Super Cup
- 2001 season: Kurt Warner, lost to Patriots in Super Bowl
- 2002 season: Rich Gannon, lost to Buccaneers in Super Bowl
- 2007 season: Tom Brady, lose New York Giants in the Super Cup
- 2013 season: Peyton Manning, lost to Seahawks in Super Bowl
- 2017 season: Tom Brady, lost to Eagles in Super Bowl
8: DeVonta Smith And Brown AJ will be the eighth 1,000-yard duo since 2010 to compete in the Super Bowl. The previous seven duos had gone 2-5, including four consecutive losses, with Ja’Marr Chase And hooded t-shirt the most recent duo.
9: Mahomes took home the NFL’s MVP title on Thursday for the second time in his career, but that may not bode well for the Captain’s chances on Sunday – the last nine players won the MVP and made the Super Bowl continues to lose the big game.
9: If the Eagles win, Sirianni will become the ninth coach to win the Super Bowl in his first two seasons.
9: Miles Sanders scored a hasty TD in nine games this season; The Eagles had a perfect 9-0 in those games. In total he has 13 rush TDs, with once again he will become the fourth Eagles player to make 14 TDs in a season.
ten: Mahomes becomes youngest QB in NFL history to hit 10 career playoff wins with first win Cincinnati Bengals.
twelfth: Since the 1999 season, there have been 12 instances where a head coach with no Super Bowl experience (Sirianni) faced off against a former Super Bowl head coach (Reid). Super Bowl coaches won 7-5 in that span.
13: The number of touchdown passes Mahomes has thrown to Travis Kelce in the post-season, the two most shy of beating Tom Brady and Rob Gronkrowski by a QB recipient duo in playoff history.
13.5: Number of bags Frank Clark scored in his playing career, the third most of all time (since matches began being recorded). He needs a sack to tie Bruce Smith in second and 2.5 to tie Willie McGinest in first.
14: If the Captain wins, Reid will become the 14th coach to win multiple Super Bowls.
15: TD rushed from Hurts this season, the most by a QB in a season (including knockouts).
17: If the Eagles win, Hurts will be the one to start 17-1, the first QB to do so in a season since Joe Montana in 1984.
21: Reid’s 21 post-season wins are the second-most in NFL playoff history, behind only Bill Belichick, who has 31. Reid is also the only coach in NFL history to have 10 or more playoff wins with multiple franchises. NFL (11 with Kansas City, 10 with Philadelphia).
24: Hurts age. If the Eagles win, he will be the youngest NFC QB to win the Super Bowl.
24: There have been 24 teams that have won both the coin flip and the all-time game in the Super Bowl. However, in the last eight Super Bowl games, the team that won the pitching game has lost the game.
28: Hurts has 28 TD rushes in his career (including knockouts), once shying away from breaking ties with Cam Newton the most by QB in his first three seasons.
29.2: The captain averaged 29.2 PPG in the regular season, the best of any team. Since 2010, however, three teams have led the regular season in points and qualified for the Super Bowl. Those teams lost 0-3 in the Super Bowl.
30: When Jalen Hurts dashed 30 yards or more this season, the Eagles were a perfect 10-0.
30: Teams scoring 30 or more points in the Super Bowl are 29-3 all-time. The Eagles have scored more than 30 points in each of their first two games after this season, and four of their five post-season wins came when they scored at least 30 points.
39: The Eagles have scored 39 TD rushes (including knockouts) this season, the most of any team. They are looking to become the first team since 1998 to lead the regular season in TD rushes (32) and win the Super Bowl.
41: In the last 56 Super Bowl games, the team that scored the most dashing yards in the game has won 41 times.

51: The combined age of Hurts and Mahomes, the youngest combined age of the two QBs to start in the Super Bowl ever.
64.3%: In the 56 Super Bowl games that took place, the teams in white had the final score of 36-20 (0.643). The Captain wears white and the Eagles wear green.
78: The Eagles have scored 78 eliminations this season (including the knockouts), the third most of all time in a single season; two people hesitate to reconcile the Bears in 1985 the second most of all time and four people hesitate to reconcile the Bears in 1984 the most of all time.
98: Mahomes is 98 yards away from becoming the 10th all-time QB to throw 4,000 yards in the post-season.
100%: Reid’s win rate against his old side, a perfect 3-0 against them since taking over as captain’s head coach.
2010: If the Eagles win, it would give the NFC Super Bowl three consecutive wins, the most for the convention since winning the Super Bowls in 2010-2012 (Saint New Orleans, Green Bay Packers, New York Giants).
