Via Allan Fox: Canelo Alvarez is picking Terence Crawford to beat Errol Spence Jr in this year’s undisputed potential weightlifting title fight.
Canelo liked Crawford’s skills (38-0, 29 KOs) and was impressed with how he was able to seamlessly transition from nampaw to mainstream without losing anything.
No one has yet guessed whether the match between Spence vs. Crawford happens or not, but it’s a good sign that neither boxer is scheduled to enter another fight.
If Spence & Crawford’s management had given up on putting the match together, they would have scheduled the two to go up against the other opposing faction.
Canelo said that if faced with Crawford, he would be patient and focus on attacking the body rather than the head. He feels Crawford is too hard to head with headers, so he will go downstairs.
We saw Canelo use a similar tactic when he fought the cunning Erislandy Lara in 2014 and focused on attacking his body. Even then, Canelo barely won in the decisive 12 rounds that many boxing fans consider a gift.
“I think Crawford because he goes south and [orthodox]”Canelo Alvarez said to Fighthype when asked who won the fight between Errol Spence Jr. and Terence Crawford.
“I think he is a very difficult fighter to play. Just be patient and prepare yourself as always and be patient,” Canelo said when asked how he would fight someone like Crawford.
“Work for the body, and patience is key. Everyone is looking at the head [of Crawford]and it’s very hard to hit that type of boxer in the head,” said Canelo.
“It was a really good fight. Two great fighters. I think it will be a really good fight,” Canelo told Fighthype about the clash between Spence and Crawford.
“No disrespect, but I choose Crawford. I do not think so; they’re good,” Canelo said when asked if Jaron ‘Boots’ Ennis is ready for Crawford and Spence. “He needs to wait, don’t rush.
“He is [Crawford] There are many skills and powers. He is a smart warrior. In boxing, anything is possible; you never know, especially when two skilled warriors combine it. “Three or four more,” Canelo said when asked when Boots Ennis would be ready for Crawford & Spence.
