The Melbourne Renegades are putting on a dazzling display in the ongoing season of the Big Bash League 2022-23. The Melbourne-based brand is holding onto second place on the leaderboard and remains unbeaten in all three games to date. In their previous match, Nic Maddinson– led a four-stroke win over the Brisbane Heat and completed their winning hat-trick. However, a very strange incident occurred during Renegades’ first clash with the Brisbane Heat, confusing commentators and players alike.
It happened in the ninth round of the Renegades when their captain Maddinson was on strike. Maddinson took a shot on Mark Steketee‘s delivery and try to run for a single. But the stakes fell from the tree and everyone assumed it was a fight. However, the story takes a strange turn when the replay confirms that Maddinson didn’t even get close to the tree stump and that the stakes had fallen on their own.

The incident confused everyone and Maddinson was told not to come out by the third referee.
Coming into the match, Maddinson broke 87 49-ball runs and won for his team by a total of 166/7 after 20 rounds. In turn, the Brisbane Heat were restricted to 144/6, thanks to Akeal Hossein’s three-stick strike.
The Melbourne Renegades will now take on the Hobart Hurricanes while the Brisbane Heat will take on the Adelaide Strikers in their next match.
