The dad who doesn’t have time to cook at home launches meal set service with recipes straight from the restaurant


A single dad who doesn’t have enough time to cook home-cooked meals has become the founder of a multi-million dollar food subscription service empire.

Billy Green, from Melbourne, tried several meal delivery kits during the city’s first grueling Covid shutdown of 2020 – but was unimpressed with the quality.

The 30-year-old believes he can do even better and plans to work with restaurants to give customers the opportunity to cook high-quality meals at home.

He launched Make-Out Meals in September 2020 while working full time from home as chief marketing officer. Today, the company is worth an estimated $5 million.

In a competitive market, with brands like Hello Fresh being foreign owned and Marley Spoon loved by customers, Mr. Green knew he needed a way to stand out from the crowd.

Mr. Green said the company is striving to be 100% sustainable with compostable packaging.

Since 2020, the company’s annual revenue has tripled and is expected to grow significantly this financial year.

March 2022 alone was the company’s busiest month on record, serving just over 1,000 plates of food a week.

For a standard box of three recipes containing six meals for two, the price is very competitive at $89 a box – just $10 more than the others.

“It costs a few dollars more per meal than our competitors but you are getting the best quality food and ingredients,” said Mr. Green.
