The giant ‘leader of the club’ for the Jimmy Garoppolo deal?

Jimmy Garoppolo still a member of San Francisco 49ers. Can he soon have a new home with Giants in New York?

Garoppolo is recovering from off-season shoulder surgery. Given the 30-year-old midfielder’s health, his impending free agency after 2022 NFL season and presence of Trey Lance on the 49ers’ roster, Garoppolo is a recurring trade contender.

One team with an uncertain future in midfield is the Giants, who rejected their fifth-year pick Daniel Jones this season. New York’s quarterback also includes free agents Tyrod Taylor and Davis Webb. At the same time, none of their current midfielders are under contract for the 2023 season, potentially leaving the door open for another move.

All this has led Colin Cowherd argues that New York is likely the “leader in the club” to acquire Garoppolo.

Jimmy Garoppolo to the New York Giants?

Colin Cowherd uses the Jimmy Garoppolo pie to analyze why the New York Giants are the best landing spot for quarterbacks.

“My gut feeling about Jimmy Garoppolo, who led the club this morning was probably the New York Giants, and there are plenty of reasons for that,” Cowherd said. “I think the Giants have a more than 50% chance of landing Jimmy Garoppolo. I think you can ignore that a little bit. Seattlea little bit of Houstona little bit of AtlantaI guess a little Cleveland.

“Number 1, Jimmy Garoppolo feels bigger than he might be,” Cowherd added. “Looks, cache, he’s handsome, he’s a gamer, he’s a Patriot, he’s Niner, he was in the Super Bowl. He feels big. Giants are huge. He feels big, and most of it is just his looks, his game, and his confidence.

“Secondly they have a new head coach on attack; he’ll be as exhausted by Daniel Jones as he was in the fourth set,” Cowherd continued. “The rest is, Daniel Jones, we all admit, we all do, he was overdrafted. He was picked Friday. We didn’t like it at the time. We didn’t like the thing. And the fourth is, and I know a lot of you struggle with this: Jimmy Garoppolo has won a lot against good teams like Packers and Rams. Jimmy Garoppolo won, and the Giants had a winning season for nine years. “

The Giants have not made it to the knockout stages since 2016. They are tied to New York Jets for the worst record in the NFL since 2017 (22-59). New York fires head coach Joe Judge after two seasons (10-23), hires former Buffalo Bills Offensive coordinator Brian Daboll as its new head coach. Daboll spent four years at Buffalo, where he coached wingers Josh Allen.

The Giants are 12-25 with Jones under center since 2019. He’s second in the NFL in yards per take (5.8) and sixth in dash yards (1,000), but only 21st. in passing yards (8,398), 25th in touchdown (45) and 38th in passerby rating (84.3) as of 2019.

San Francisco, on the other hand, is 25-12 with Garoppolo at the center since 2019, including an NFC championship in 2019 and an appearance in the NFC Championship Game in 2021.

Garoppolo ranks fourth in the NFL for completion rate (68.5 percent), 12th for passer rating (99.4), 17th for passing yards (8,884) and 20th for touches ball (54) since 2019.

He also scored 138 yards of dash and four hasty touchdowns over 94 passes over that span.
