Toyota Fortuner GR-S gets power from 2.8-liter turbocharged diesel engine.
Toyota Fortuner has been one of the most popular premium SUVs in India for a long time. Besides the Innova Crysta, Fortuner remains one of the important revenue drivers for the Japanese automaker in the Indian market. Not only in India, Toyota Fortuner is also the best-selling product of this brand in a number of other Southeast Asian markets. Well-equipped to take on rough road challenges, the Toyota Fortuner offers a strong on-road appearance. However, that doesn’t seem to be enough for an owner in the Philippines who has opted for numerous modifications to the SUV. Made by a local tuner, the extensive modification gives Toyota Fortuner a demonic appearance, and it seems ready for any terrain challenge.
Modified by Autobot Offroad PH, the custom Toyota Fortuner is equipped with parts from several well-known companies. Dubbed Project Albino, the model is the 2022 Toyota Fortuner GR-S, and it looks like a big-legged truck after the modification. It is equipped with a large 152 mm suspension system derived from Unicorn. 35-inch Nitto Mid Extreme tires wrapped around 20-inch KMC Grenade Crawl alloy wheels give the SUV outstanding traction.
Combined with the mammoth wheels, the rough suspension has increased the SUV’s ground clearance to a large extent, reducing the fear of scratching the undercarriage. As the modifier claims, the upgraded suspension features Profender long-travel shock absorbers, the upper control arm sourced from Old Man Emu and a adjuster bar at the rear sourced from Hardrace Panhard.
Customizations aren’t just limited to wheels and suspension. This Toyota Fortuner also receives an upgraded K&N air filter, which benefits the 2.8-liter turbocharged diesel engine. Other modifications include the ARB airlock, Yukon rebound, and more powerful brakes derived from AP Racing. In addition, it is plated with undercarriage protection derived from ARB.
The customization studio hasn’t revealed the engine’s specs yet. Therefore, it is not known whether the motor was re-tuned to produce better power and torque. The stock engine of the Toyota Fortuner GR-S is good enough to produce 201 hp of peak power and 500 Nm of peak torque. The car has a TRD carbon exhaust at the rear that gives it a sporty sound.
In addition to the aforementioned mechanical changes, the revised Toyota Fortuner also receives a front bumper that is certainly Hamer-derived. It features automatic retractable side steps and a TJM snorkel that enhances the vehicle’s wading depth. It has a winch for even more difficult situations. The SUV also has an aftermarket bonnet, adding to the aggressive look of the vehicle. There is a Front Runner roof rack that ensures extra space.
Not only outside inside the cabin, but the SUV also has some changes. The customization studio claims that the changes inside the cabin are limited to a set of Recaro ‘Cross Sportster’ seats for the driver and front passenger. There are also contrast red upholstery and integrated headrests.
