This year’s Golden Globe fashion is for men
Did anyone say fairy godmother?
To paraphrase Groucho Marx: behind every well-dressed man is a woman. Never has the statement been read more correctly than this year Golden Globe where men’s fashion is frivolous and fun. The sloppy suit of Tyler James Williams, winner of Best Supporting Actor in a Comedy/Drama? Chosen for him by the stylist Ashley North. Seth Rogen’s pastel pink ensemble? The spirit child of sisters Wendi and Nicole Ferreira. Jeremy Pope’s all-skin look? Well, we can’t confirm who his stylist is, but we’ll guess it’s a woman.
But the real winner of the night was Ilaria Urbinati, who styled not one but five of the night’s best dressed men. Donald Glover seems to have just stepped out of a 1970s time machine in the best possible way, wearing a comfortable white tunic and trousers paired with a tailored black Saint Laurent jacket. Adam Scott, whose wardrobe is very underrated, and Diego Calva both serve the reality of the Emerald City in two green Paul Smith suits and gucci corresponding. And then, Barry Keoghan dazzled us with a beautiful dove blue with his custom Louis Vuitton suit.
Red carpet victories are nothing new for Urbinati. She is affectionately known by fashion and Hollywood circles as a “superhero stylist” because of her Marvel/DC-related clientele. Think Chris Evans, Ryan Reynolds, Tom Hiddleston, Bradley Cooper, Ben Affleck, Dwayne Johnson, James Marsden and others. And while this group of men may not like you for your ultra-stylish style, says Urbinati washington articles in 2019 that her goal is to make them look “interesting” and “surprise” instead of “peacock” with over-the-top clothes. Considering the top man energy all of her clients gave at the 2023 Golden Globes, we consider that mission accomplished.
Below we’ve rounded up the best men’s fashion moments at the 80th Golden Globes, including Urbinati clients and other worthy celebrities.
