It was the end of an era.
Trevor Noah held the last episode of his run above Daily program on Thursday night. And he ended it with a touching goodbye to his audience — and the women who raised him.
Fans from all over watched as Noah logged out for the last time. In her final episode, the South African-born star was understandably emotional about the whole thing. Saying goodbye during a segment for his studio audience, Noah said:
“I’m grateful to you. Every single one of you. I remember when we started the show we couldn’t have enough people to fill the audience… And now I look at this and I never consider it. Every seat is ever filled to watch something I’m working on, I always appreciate that.”
He then went on to express his gratitude to his viewers as well. Even those who don’t watch in donate! Noah mentions:
“Thank you to the viewers who shared the clip. Everyone who has had an opinion. Even those who hate watching. We still have ratings! I am forever grateful to you.”
Next, the 38-year-old star was particularly touched with a “special thanks to Black women”. Explaining where he is in life because of their influence, he said:
“I’m often credited with having these great ideas… and I’m like, ‘Who do you think taught me? Who do you think shaped me, nurtured me and shaped me?’ From my mother, my grandmother, my aunts.”
And he continued:
“Now I will tell you, do yourself a favor, if you really want to know what to do or how to do, or maybe the best way or the fairest way, talk to the skin women. black. They are very much the reason I am here. I am grateful to them, and I am grateful to each one of you. It is an honor.”
