TV shows in 2023: Premiere dates to watch out for


This show launched during a pandemic at a time when people needed a warm welcome from its serious, easygoing attitude, but Ted Lasso It’s impossible to sustain that sentiment unless we’re honest about the fact that not everyone approaches life with an open heart and good intentions. Sometimes people are cruel, act in bad faith, or simply don’t care. Coach Ted and the characters he’s conquered are still an antidote to that skepticism, but in order to avoid becoming a Hallmark card, this show will likely be much more authentic, edgy. much more and maybe a little cooler than before warming things up again. —AB

What happens when Shawn Levy, Director, Director of Free guy and Night at the Museum film, taking on a Pulitzer Prize-winning book set in World War II France? That is the intriguing question at the heart of All the light we can’t see, a miniseries adaptation of Anthony DoerrTouching novel of, will play the main role Mark Ruffalo and Hugh Laurie next to someone new Aria Mia Loberti. While Netflix has had success with hit TV shows, they haven’t done too many high-tone literary adaptations. Could this be the show that gets them a seat at the table that HBO has long dominated? —KR

It’s unclear exactly when this new political thriller from west wing and Countryside alum Debora Cahn coming out, but since filming takes place in London this year, it’s very likely Keri Russel will be back on our screens soon. In her first television role since American, Russell will play a professional diplomat who finds himself overwhelmed after taking on an important new job. Rufus Sewell (The Man in the White Castle) and Ali Ahn (Billion) as well. —NJ

In the time you’ve read this, Steven Soderbergh wrote, directed, and edited four to six new projects, all of which will soon be available on a streaming service near you. The next project on his list? full circle, an HBO Max limited series starring Dennis Quaid, Zazie Beetz, Claire Danes, and Timothy Olyphant. The six-episode series, directed entirely by Soderbergh, tells the story of an investigation into a botched kidnapping in New York City, with Quaid reportedly playing a high-profile chef whose nephew becomes a target. pepper. Soderbergh is well known in his Soder pocket when it comes to crime thrillers, so here’s hoping this series, with its gripping long story and eclectic population, is no exception. —YD

Entire Monty (Forex)

In an age of reboots, reunions and long-delayed new seasons, British stand-up comedy Entire Monty not necessarily high on anyone’s list of must-see comebacks. But now all the original stars have agreed to return—that is Robert Carlyle, Mark Addy, Tom Wilkinson, and more—under the guidance of the original screenwriter Simon Beaufoy and producer Uberto Pasolini, why not expect it? The original 1997 film, Fox Searchlight’s first best picture contender, remains a winning gem, and the new series promises to hit many of the same themes. According to FX, “it will follow the original brotherhood as they navigate the post-industrial city of Sheffield and the crumbling health care, education and employment sectors of society. The series will explore a brighter, wiser, and more human path forward, where joint effort can triumph over adversity.” —KR

Billed as coming from “Hollywood gutters,” a collaboration between Abel “The Weeknd” Tesfaye and Happiness creator Sam Levinson recently released a teaser trailer including sex, drugs, rock and roll music and stars Lily-Rose Depp in a series of impossibly tiny bikini tops. A toxic love story between aspiring pop star Depp and The Weeknd as a self-help guru, it looks like an even more Hollywoodized version Happiness, or maybe The Weeknd’s dizzying club scene in uncut gems stretched to chain length. Prepare to watch your entire Twitter feed scream about it every Sunday night whenever Idol finally released. —KR

After starring in her own blockbuster novel adaptation of Big and small lies and Little flames are everywhere, Hello Sunshine gift by Reese Witherspoon The last thing he said to me—a major vehicle for Jennifer Garner (who instead) Julia Roberts), based Laura Davebook in 2021. Garner plays Hannah, a woman who finds a new means of connection with her 16-year-old stepdaughter (Angola Rice) as they search for Owen’s husband and father (Nikolaj Coster-Waldau) after his startling disappearance. Dave is adapting her novel with her co-creator and husband Singer Josh, Oscar winner for co-writing 2015 Bright spot. Olivia Newman, Who directed Hello Sunshine’s Where do Crawdads sing? film adaptation, was brought in to direct. —SW

Developed at HBO for nearly a decade before Apple took over, this World War II historical drama is produced by none other than Tom Hanks and Steven Spielberg, among others, and reunite Hanks with him Elvis costar Austin butler. Cary Joji Fukunaga, also an executive producer, is on the list of top directors for a series that is said to be extremely expensive—Dee Rees (draggle), Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck (Captain Marvel), and Tim van Patten (The Sopranos, Boardwalk Empire, Game of Thrones, etc) also stepped behind the camera. Then you are lucky for Netflix Queen Charlotte: The Bridgerton Story waltz on the streaming platform in 2023. Limited prequel series from major producer Shonda Rhimes will follow the journey of young Queen Charlotte (IndiaAmarteifio) as well as younger versions of Bridgerton Lady Bridgerton matriarchy (Ruth Gemmell) and Lady Danbury (Adjoa Andoh). “It’s really great,” Netflix chief scriptwriter Peter Friedlander told Diversity. “It will live up to your expectations.” —CM

Game of Thrones‘ DB is back—David Benioff and DB Weiss is overseeing the sci-fi series about humanity’s first encounter with intelligent alien life. co-created with real blood‘S Alexander Woo, The show is based on a novel by Luu Tu Han and is expected to cover a large period of time with a cast. Among the actors are Jess Hong belong to squid, Liam Cunningham (one royalty veteran), John Bradley (other), and Sorcerer Supreme‘S Benedict Wong and Jovan Adepo (fence). The title refers to a type of physics equation that predicts the motion of three different objects in relation to each other. The famous difficult question focuses on whether a repeating pattern can be discerned. With two objects—no problem. But add a third case, the possibilities become much harder to predict. —AB
