Twitter bans US Marine for questioning Ukraine narrative — RT World News

The foundation said USMC veteran and former UN weapons inspector Scott Ritter violated the “intentional harassment” rule

Twitter “Permanently Suspended” Retired US Marine officer Scott Ritter on Wednesday accused him of engaging in prohibited conduct by questioning Ukrainian authorities’ claims that Russian soldiers massacred civilians in Bucha near Kiev. . Ritter is best known as a former United Nations weapons inspector who questioned the US claim of Iraq’s weapons of mass destruction, which Washington cited as a pretext for the invasion of Iraq. 2003.

“So apparently I was suspended from Twitter for protesting against the mainstream reporting of the so-called Bucha massacre,” Ritter said on his Telegram channelshare a screenshot of the message he received from the Big Tech platform.

“I’ve appealed, so who knows what the future will bring,” Ritter said, adding that “Freedom of speech in America today is an endangered concept.”

According to the screenshot, Twitter’s moderators have decided that Ritter violated their rules against “Harassment and abuse” by saying that the Ukrainian police have committed crimes against humanity in Bucha and are trying to blame Russia with the help of the US.

Ritter’s tweet does not contain calls to abuse or harass, or to physically harm anyone, Shadowproof journalist Kevin Gosztola shownargued that his ban “Shows how the Twitter Rules can be twisted to silence critics of US foreign policy.”

The rules were recently updated to include “Denying mass casualty events have taken place” Gosztola notebut he said Ritter hasn’t done that either.

In an article published by RT on Monday, Ritter examined Ukraine’s allegations that retreating Russian troops massacred civilians on their way out of Bucha, pointing out a number of inconsistencies and “Red Flag” with them and place them in the context of a propaganda war raging parallel to the ongoing military conflict.

Grayzone’s Aaron Mate also points out that nothing fits the definition of “Intentional Harassment” in Ritter’s flagged tweet and claim to Twitter “Please undo” ban.

“You are suspending a decorated Marine Corps veteran and former UN weapons inspector who bravely warned the world about Bush [administration’s] Iraq WMD lies. Silencing dissenting voices will render your platform unusable.” You tweeted.

Ritter is a retired US Marine who inspected Soviet weapons under the now defunct INF treaty and served as UN weapons inspector in Iraq from 1991 to 1998. and served on the payroll of General Norman Schwarzkopf during the First Gulf War.

His “suspension” comes just days after Tesla and SpaceX founder Elon Musk sit down on Twitter’s board, having become the platform’s largest individual shareholder, with hints that he would revert to its moderation.
