Tyson Fury Disappointed With Oleksandr Usyk The Fight Wasn’t Made

Via Craig Daly: Tyson Fury is starting to lose patience with the slow progress of his negotiations for an undisputed heavyweight bout against IBF, WBA & WBO champion Oleksandr Usyk on April 29.

Although Fury’s promoter Frank Warren says the bout will definitely take place in April, his showdown with unified three-belt champion Usyk has yet to be confirmed.

With today being February 10th, it’s not clear how much longer Team Fury can wait before scrapping their intention to take this fight and move on so they can salvage the first half of this year to join the fight.

Should Fury continue?

Fury & Usyk’s promoters will still need time to market the fight, and they won’t have enough time to do the right job if negotiations drag into March or, shudder at the thought April before it was finally signed, stamped & delivered.

“Negotiations over the war with Usyk are still ongoing. All talk and no release,” Tyson Fury told Beyond Radio. “I don’t know anything about it right now. We shall see. But until today, I haven’t even received an offer to fight from anyone.”

Stop loss the other way is an option for Fury that he and his ad team will have to consider at some point because the duration of the fight with Usyk is too much for its value.

If Fury continues, he has a lot of great options, starting with a big showdown with the WBO interim champion Joe Joyce.

That bout will resonate with British boxing fans and book the winner of a bout against Anthony Joshua in the second half of this year, provided he wins the April 1 bout against Jermaine Franklin.

It’s likely that Fury will make more money and profit fighting Joyce (15-0, 14 KOs) than going up against Usyk (20-0, 13 KOs) for the undisputed championship.

Only extreme hardcore boxing fans would be interested in the undisputed angle as it is beyond the reach of casual fans. After all, they won’t know how many belts will show up in the fight between Fury and Usyk.

“I was undefeated for 14 years. I can beat any man; there is no doubt about that. They certainly can’t beat me in the boxing ring,” Fury said as he changed the subject to strengthen himself.
