McCarthy announced he would pass bills addressing “urgent” domestic issues with an America first approach. Beyond immigration, he said he wants to tackle “Last America” energy policies and “wake up the upbringing” in schools, noting that children are a priority and should be taught to “dream big”.
He added that he would also plan to address long-term challenges such as debt and the Chinese Communist Party, while reaffirming his commitment to law enforcement and criminal prosecution.

Biden congratulated McCarthy on his election as Speaker of the House in a statement released just before 1 a.m. ET.
“Jill and I congratulate Kevin McCarthy on being elected Speaker of the House,” Biden said. “I am willing to work with Republicans when possible, and voters have made it clear that they expect Republicans to be willing to work with me as well,” he added.
