World Heavyweight Champion, Oleksandr Usyk, released an exclusive interview in which he discusses a potential fight between Tyson Fury and Anthony Joshua, as well as claims Fury is ‘afraid’ of him.
Usyk rose to greatness with an undisputed and undefeated campaign in the cruiser division. Now, his plans to do the same at heavyweight have slowed down a bit.
Next Second win in a row over Joshua, the path seemed clear for Usyk to face Fury and be crowned the undisputed champion. He wanted early next year, while Fury asked for December. Because of disagreement, ‘King Gypsy’ called out ‘AJ’, who seemed to have taken the opportunity with both hands.
When asked what might happen if an all-British fight were to be made, Usyk replied essentially before going on to say it was not the fight the fans wanted.
“Well, if they sign a contract then they will punch each other for a while. The thing is that everyone expected Usyk-Fury to fight for the undisputed championship, which for many years has not happened in the heavyweight division. “
“Even though he [Fury’s] toughness and the way he is generally described, he is afraid [of me].
Continuing on this topic, the interviewer asked who he would support in the fight, as he would likely face the winner for all belts.
“I will support both. I won’t even watch this fight. Do not want. Okay, just kidding. I’ll even go there to see live how they punch each other.
Finally, the Ukrainian, who supported his country during the Russian invasion, has revealed his real priority – and it’s not the boxing ring.
“Honestly, I don’t think about them [Fury and Joshua] at all. Want to know what I’m really thinking about? I want to see my children, hug and kiss them. That’s all I’m thinking about.”
It is unclear when Usyk will return to the ring, although there is little doubt that he will sooner or later. Will the Fury-AJ fight get underway this year, he expressed interested in facing former champion and knockout artist, Deontay Wilder.
